Can anyone tell me if Kiwi - Actinidia Jenny can be grown in a container? if so, what would be the correct size of container for the plant?

    Best regards,
    Greg

      Kiwi - Actinidia Jenny

Does your response mean that the vine will take over my garden? Bit like the film "The Day of The Triffids"

      Best regards,

I still have nightmares about the way it used to tap on my bedroom window. Every day it would get bigger and try to stop me leaving the house by blocking the patio doors and I'd have to creep out, bent double, while it looked away. It entwined itself around the wooden archway supports and squeezed so hard that the timber buckled and the roof collapsed.
I had it cut down (chainsaw job), the roots dug out and a concrete GH base laid on top of it. It still came back. Every year I cut it down and the next year its back. Its out there now, waiting for me. I know it wants to throttle me with its hairy arms.
        Good luck

          YMMV

This is Kiwi Solo in it's third year. Still not turned into a thug but also not flowered or filed it's space yet.

            Kiwi - Actinidia Jenny

OMG! My wife’s cousin immigrated to New Zealand in the 1970s to start a Kiwi farm under an NZ government scheme. That would explain why after a few years in NZ he joined the NZ Police Force!!!

Needless to say I have just had a change of mind about going into the Kiwi growing business!

            Best regards,
            Greg

At great personal risk, I crept up to the Kiwi and took a quick snap before it woke up!

I also have this little fella - thinks its an Issai. Can't decided where to plant it and I've had it a year or two! The leaves are much smaller and I don't think it will be as overwhelming as Jenny was. Maybe one of these would suit you, Artisan?

I thought Kiwi fruit was tender. I had a Kiwi Jenny in 2002 and it never got bigger than 18 inches before dying.

They can loose their buds if hit by a late frost. Mine was this year but secondary buds came into play later on. A sever frost may kill them back to the ground.

My kiwis (1 male and 1 female) are now about 4 years old. As yet no sign of any flowers. The olants are growing vigorously and have climbed over a wire mesh I fixed to the wall. How many years does it usually take before they flower?

Sorry, can't remember, it was a few years while the thug put all its energy into growing, and growing and growing. At the time I thought that was a good sign I was such an innocent
