Rampant Fig

Hi New here

I have a fig tree that was getting out of hand so during the winter I cut it back hard, Now its producing new growth so fast you can watch it grow, should i summer prune it to slow it down or leave it until the winter

I've read that you're supposed to nip/prune the new growth when it gets 6 leaves - about now.
