  • Poor Ol' Melon!

I have just noticed that the growing tip of my Galia Melon in the greenhouse has been snapped of somehow. The plant had grown to about 2ft. Will the plant break again from a side shoot which I can train as the main growing tip?

    Best regards,
    Greg

I think it should still grow and produce.
My melon doesn't get any training, it does its own thing. All I do is hand pollinat some of the flowers.

Thank you for your reply. This is the first time I have tried to grow a Galia Melon. Talking about hand pollinating, I’m having difficulty recognizing the male and female flowers because they are so small. As the plant is only about 2ft high at moment am I expecting a little too much too soon? Should I be waiting until the plant is bigger when I assume the flowers will be larger as well?

      Best regards,
      Greg

Might be a bit soon, I've only got male flowers open on my plant at the moment. The flowers aren't very big anyway. You should be able to tell the female flowers because they have a round lump behind the flower and on the male flower it is just stem, no lump.

help it to prosper, give it a feed so it has the fuel to grow more leaders, I treat mine exactly the same as my toms, and they end up tasting lovely...
