Failed Graft

Thought I'd share this as it shows clearly the misaligned cambium layers and the die back on the right hand side of the rootstock. I suspect there may be a little alignment lower down the cleft on the left as the scion is just about alive.



I was watching a youtube on grafting gigs a while back when the scion was placed diagonally across the rootstock to avoid the problem shown above.

Sometimes the old books would recommend putting two scions on a stock, when they were much narrower - so you have one scion either side of the cleft - of course the cambium layer alignment still needed to be closely done.
