I have just read the growing guide on Red Currants but it does not mention container growing. Can anyone tell me if I can successfully grow a Red Currant in a container and what compost should be used.
I'm sure you can, but they are large plants, so you'll need a big container, at least 50ltr I should think, and it'll be a job keeping it from drying out in summer...
I have grown a blackcurrant bush in a half barrel for the last five years. After the poor yield from it this year I have cut it down.
I think ideally they do better in the ground.
And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.
