  • Blackcurrant cuttings

Last year, for the 2016 Soft Fruit circle, I took a load of cuttings from some blackcurrant bushes and put them in water to root. Most of them were sent to the Circle, the remainder were left in the bucket.
    Here they are today

The water hasn't been changed since the day they were stuck in the bucket! Who needs soil to grow blackcurrants?

What time of year did you take the cuttings veggie? Are you going to plant them up now ?? Picked loads of currants from next door and they are huge so going to make black currant jelly.

Can't remember - probably about September-ish. The bushes were in the wrong place and had to be moved so I gave them a haircut. Unfortunately for me, I cut off all this year's fruiting branches and the original bushes didn't crop this year! Rookie mistake
I'll find a space for them somewhere - probably along the fence where all the odd cuttings are bunged in.

EDIT - it was beginning of October http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...ml#post1486397

I made the exact same mistake with my redcurrant bush - no redcurrants for me this year.

I prune mine as I harvest them, its easier that way. Cut off a stem with currants on, strip the currants, stick the stem into a vee made with a spade if i want to increase my stock.
