My crab apple tree might not be a crab apple after all.

So this was bought as a crab apple tree but these tiny things that grow on it don't look like crab apples to, me, was I lied to my my garden centre? It's been there for 6+ years now and this is what grows on it every year.

Any ideas folks?

Might be a crab apple, could you cut one fruit in half horizontally and one laterally and post the photos please ? Seeing what the insides are like ought to decide the matter.

( I bought a supposed plum tree from an internet site a few years ago, and got a crab-apple, but fortunately they refunded the purchase price)

Thats them split, they're only the size of a pea.

Malus Royalty perhap ?
Google "red leaf crabapple tree" Several appear as possibilities but Royalty looks fairly close.

Looks like an ornamental crab to me.

Thanks, that definitely looks like it. The fruit looks too small to do anything with, I always just leave it for the birds.

Crab apples usually makes quite good jam/jelly, if you like slightly tart conserves. Boil some up with a similar weight of sugar, then strain through a sieve to get rid of the bits.

a cutting off that would make a great bonsai tree, with the tiny fruit making everything in scale, just the leaf size to be reduced..
