Cob Nuts

Hi four years ago my husbands father gave us a small cob nut tree, so far it has failed to produce any nuts. This spring however it did produce a few catkins, am I likely to get any nuts from this tree

Please can anyone offer me some advice.

This is my 3rd year with a young cobnut tree, and it's the first time it has produced nuts.
We did have catkins last year and this year, but no nuts last year.
If you are going to get nuts this year, you should be able to see them now. If not- you'll have to wait......

It says here... Nut trees are partially self-fertile, so will produce some nuts. However Self-fertile plants often crop better and produce a more reliable harvest if they are pollinated by another tree.
If you have the space get another tree of the same type close by. This would mean you will have nuts on all the trees.

Nut trees tend to crop erratically, so you may get a good crop one year and not so good the next.

If you have the space let them grow unpruned, pruning can affect the yield.

Pruning might have something to do with it, we do not have a lot of space and it is very close to a young apple tree so we have to keep it in check. The sad thing is that is that if it won't produce the nuts, I can see very little point in keeping it.
