  • Grape vine advice please

    Hello!
I've recently had my mid life crisis and got a beautiful cedar Alton greenhouse, so of course the next step is to furnish it with a grape vine.
Now as a grapevine is for life I want to choose wisely.
I want delicious eating grapes as I don't have a lot of time for wine making.
I remember having some from a friends greenhouse once that tasted of elderflower.
Can you grow 1 plant in its own and get fruit?
I was looking at Lakemont and Vanessa from Pomona
Could I grow the together to have a "2 coloured" vine? Or would this encourage disease?
I am a grape novice (although fairly seasoned gardener) so all advice hugely appreciated!

I think the flavour you remember is from Muscat grapes. I hope someone else can confirm this.

      Brilliant that's amazing.

Do you know whether it's possible to grow 2 together to create a "bi coloured" vine?

They are self-fertile so you can grow just the one. Also no problem growing 2 different varieties, but I think it would be simpler to grow them parallel but separately rather than going for a bi coloured effect. They grow like crazy in a greenhouse and it's a full time job stopping them entangling themselves with themselves; encouraging them to entangle themselves with each other is asking for trouble. They may also have different pruning/harvesting requirements; for instance if you want to thin your bunches, you'll be doing that at a time when all the bunches are green, irrespective of what colour they plan to end up.
