    Hello burnie
It is likely to be Bloody Ploughman, but a few points------
Does the skin go greasy like a Bramley when it is stored?
Is it also stained pink when very ripe, sweet, light taste, juicy, crisp?
Whist taste is depending on the individual, the juicyness, crispness, and skin going greasy in storage will tend to give it away.
Apparentl it is a vigorous grower, Crops Sept/Nov, pick middle Sept?(in Kent??)
I think you should be chuffed to have it, as the variety's been around since at least 1883.
Sadly, I have found more info on that variety on the internet than in my books.
    Enjoy!

      Sorry Burnie
      Just reread your posts.
As yours is dry, this is not it, so back to being Red Delicious or a sport of RD as the skin is dry.
