I have some Autumn raspberry canes, All Gold, which I’ve been growing for the last few years. When we had our garden redone in September I dug them up and stuck them in pots (they’d finished fruiting) and they are now dormant.
I now have a dedicated bed for them which is about 0.6m deep and 1.2m wide. I was wondering what the best way to support them would be. I know they don’t need much support compared to summer fruiting canes but they can grow pretty tall and bend over with the weight of the fruit.
Originally I was envisaging some kind of post and wire structure or using the fence to help support but wondering now if this is over complicating things.
I’m thinking of planting 3 or 4 of my strongest canes in a row along the center of the bed with at least a foot of space between them and then simply putting in some chunky bamboo canes so I can tie them in as necessary. I’m going to be growing them quite tightly so will occasionally prune them for airflow.
Here’s my space:

The beds have been well dug over and a good bag of rotted manure worked in. I’m planning to do something to tidy up the lawn edge (maybe some plastic edging) in the Spring.
