Chuckleberry??

Anyone brave/daft enough to try one? I have a Honeyberry that is a disappointment, so I might give this one a miss.

Jostaberry is also a disappointment for me and this fruit is in the Chucleberry lineage!

I will give this one a miss but I am trying Wonderberry from seed this year!

I like Jostaberries - larger than blackcurrants with a hint of goosegog without the thorns.
The name Chuckleberry puts me off - sounds like a cartoon character.

I’m interested to know how big they get - I like the flavour of jostaberries but my allotment neighbour has one and it’s a triffid, I don’t have enough space. If the chuckleberry is more modestly proportioned I’d go for it. Anybody tried one?

Jostaberries grow like blackcurrants. the pruning controls the size. Mine are huge because I'm a reluctant pruner.

But jostaberries and chuckleberries are hybrids so more naturally vigorous than their parents, right?

Don't know about that ^^^ but my blackcurrant bushes are the same size as the jostaberries.

I grew those fuchsia berries but as with a lot of these novelty fruits they were a disappointment. They aren’t tasty until fully ripe but the instant they ripen they fall off the bush. So picking any quantity is nearly impossible. And a lot of my soft fruit gets made into a breakfast compote. Fuchsia berries change colour when cooked and then strongly resemble slugs. Really they just turn slug grey.
The flowers are pretty. I won’t be growing them hoping for any usable quantity of fruit though.

Chap in Somerset on last week's Gardener's World growing a chuckleberry in a sort of forest garden setup. Anyone tried them yet?

I grow jostaberry and love the fruit, you can eat straight from the bush without twisting your mouth and lips sticking into your gums,
However, i prune mine and have a small amount of fruit production.
My allotment neighbour OTOH, allows his to grow out of control, it's huge. He has a massive fruit production.
I think i reduce fruit by shaping and pruning, If you have the space, go for it and grow it.

I'm also put off by the name chuckleberry, im reluctant to give this cartoon character space
