Blackberries and raspberries

I haven't pruned the ones on my plot yet when they grew last year. Is it too late to do so now and still get fruit this year?

is it a case of just cutting back to the stems coming out the ground?

Summer or autumn fruiting raspberries, Dave??
If they're summer ones, they'll fruit on the canes that grew last year. If Autumn, you can cut back last year's old canes as new ones will be emerging soon.
My rule of thumb is - if its dead, cut it out. If its not, do nowt

Sorry to hijack this thread but have just treated our little plot to some raspberries with some malling seedling, Glen ample and polka. Now I think that these should spread our fruiting period but as polka is an autumn fruiterer I will need a different regime for pruning? My plan was to plant them ASAP when ground not frozen then do I cut them all back to the ground before new growth starts? I'll then have to wait for the malling and ample to put up canes to over winter to fruit next summer and cut the polka back to the ground next winter?

I wouldn't do any pruning until they've had time to establish themselves, then you should see whether the stems they have are this year's new growth or last year's dead stuff.

With lancaster rainfall amounts I would make sure the ground is free draining soil, if not use ridges or raised beds other wise root rot may be an issue long term

Good point made by our aptly named Manx neighbour they're in a raised bed luckily so hopefully we'll be OK, but never say never.
