Strawberrys in their 2nd year - anything needing done?

Hi all.,

Last year I planted up some runners in hanging baskets and had a a lovely first year crop. The plants are now looking a little tired after the winter and I hope give some TLC for an even bigger crop this year.

My question is, do I need to uproot the plants and replant in fresh compost, or do I just feed them and let them get on with it? Most of the leaves dyed over winter too so I removed these and only kept a small number of smaller fresher leaves.

feed them, cut away all the dead stuff and you will be fine, it is recommended that the plants be replaced every 3/4 years so you should consider rooting some of the runners this year so you have new plants next year

I just got my first flower of the year on a hanging basket strawberry in the polytunnel.
I am ridiculously pleased. It’s a miserable looking thing too. It’s meant to be pink as it’s a ‘just add cream’ one but it’s more off white.
Still. It means I’m getting there, right?

Here’s another polytunnel hanging basket/ bag.
This one is filled with reused potting compost mixed with homemade compost and leafmould. The strawberry plants were runners I grubbed up from an outside container.
It has cost me nothing as the bag was used last year too. So every strawberry will be for free. They will be extra sweet for that reason alone.
