Joan J raspberry help

Hi, I planted bare root Joan J Autumn fruiting raspberries last year. I cut the canes down to the ground in the Winter. Now I have a carpet of raspberry shoots popping up rather than the obvious single new canes I’m used to with Summer fruiting raspberries.
What am I supposed to do, thin them out like carrots??

I never thin mine out, each new cane will fruit, so thinning would reduce the crop.

I don't thin mine either - unless they've spread too far out of line.

I thin mine, in fact I did it today! I keep at least 3 and at most 5 of the strongest canes on each plant.

I want the plant to concentrate on large juicy berries.

If the unwanted ones are a long way away from the row I pull them out, otherwise I cut them off at ground level.

With mine once they are up they are up I do however reduce the canes every second year by digging them up and replanting the strongest canes

Size isn't everything GL! So that looks normal to everyone?

If you have the time I'd suggest leaving 15 or so of the best and just cutting the others off below soil level - won't be a disaster if you just leave them, but they do look a bit crowded :-)

Bario1, my Polka look the same and was wondering if should thin them. What I have noticed is the row I'm double cropping have a lot less, but still a good number of new canes for the second autumn crop after the first crop. So will save any thinning out effort that maybe required on the single crop row

Joan J do seem to want to ramble Bario. We transplanted a single row Jan 2017 and already they're trying to colonise an area about 9 feet wide. Lovely fruit though

Ugh, more work for me then! I did a quick cull this morning of the weaker stems and the ones furthest from the row, so they're looking a bit neater. Looking forward to tasting the fruit!
