My trees from the place I swore never to use again were delivered yesterday. As before no despatch notification so I wasn't at home to accept them, just an email from the courier driver that he'd tossed them over the 6' gate. Looking at how dry they are Id say they were boxed and sent out before the bank holiday Monday.
There's considerable damage to the sunburst, most of last years branches were snapped when it was forced into the box, I've had to remove them. The stella is in slightly better shape, probably as it has so few scaffold branches anyway. If they were apples Id be hard pressed to call then feathered maidens. I've yet to unwrap the rootballs but given neither tree is taller than 40" I'm not expecting much.
I've bought a lot of trees over the years, admittedly not cherry trees though; and I have to say these are probably the worst and certainly no better than the supermarket offerings and 3 times the price. They look nothing like the standard displayed on their website.
Both are however salvageable and should grow on, but it will take an extra year to get them back to health and they may not shape well as mature trees.
If I get 5 mins I'll take some pictures.
