  • Greenhouse fruit

I'm thinking of getting 2 greenhouses and connecting them back to back and growing fruit in them, namely peregrine peach and flavorcot apricot both are dwarf varieties has anyone has experience in doing this

I've got a flavorcot apricot in my small poly-tunnel - only about 4 years old though. Obviously there is a long history of peaches being grown under glass in this country, so there are some well established methods.

Was there any specific issue that you wanted to ask about ?

Experience in connecting the greenhouses or growing the fruit in them?

I think VC has some connected greenhouses but they could be fruit/ veg cages. Sorry that's not helpful.

I have tried growing fruit in the greenhouse and mine fair better outside (pots and ground grown). Just depends on if the seasonal weather is on my side or not

Edit: or was it the varieties of fruit?

As NG says I have 3 connected 8x6 GH frames but they're not glazed, just netted.
There are 3 dwarf peach trees, grape vines, raspberries, strawberries, a 9 Star perennial cauli and a lot of weeds in there now.

Initially, I had an Amsden June peach in a pot in a glass GH. I moved it every year for 4 years as I couldn't decide where to grow it. Finally, it was planted in the soil in a netted polytunnel where its a lot happier.
There are about 6 peaches, 3 nectarines and an apricot in there now.

I've connected 2 greenhouses before which I grow toms, peppers, chillies, cucumbers and cucamelons in but I'm interested in growing apricots and peaches in the new plan I've got. Was wondering whether to grow into borders or large pots. Was also thinking of training trees into fans

I have grown a peregrine fan in the ground in an 8 x 14 greenhouse. It was highly productive.

Right, so you want to know about growing them! I'd plant in the ground in preference to pots, especially if you're going to train them as you'll have difficulty repotting them later.
Mine are more like cordons than fans because of the limited headroom at "shoulder level" in a GH.

What rootstock are they? My dwarfs really are dwarf and you wouldn't have any hope of training if you had the same.
