  • Anyone successfully growing a hazel tree in a pot?

I've got a small area in my garden where I need a barrier but can't plant into the ground due to the drainage system. I've got a few pots to put there but I'd also like to try a hazel. I've been looking online but haven't really found any useful info about how practical this is, which varieties are smaller/bushier etc.

Anyone doing this? Or know where I could find some good info?

Got a feeling that a Hazel would need a huge pot or you could try to bonsai it!

I had a hazel in a large pot for years but it died this spring without ever producing a nut. They need a lot of watering to thrive.

That's sort of what I was wondering... whether you could restrict the root system somewhat to produce a more manageable tree. From Shirl's experience though, maybe not!

Ah well... better to find out here and now than after expending time and money!

        Thanks folks

hi. my mum has a hazel tree growing in a pot in her garden. she didnt know about it until i recently found it, under a large hazel where i think it fell into the pot and has just grown 'wild'. It is healthy, but not overly large, but produces enough nuts to get the squirells going!
