  • I successfully grew three ripe melons this year. The variety was Minnesota Midget. I never get many, and some years none of them ripen... out of the last six years I've succeeded with melons a couple of times, and with watermelons once.

      • Our last melon this year

Just harvested last melon and cleared out the now-dead vines.

        Last melon. Can for scale

We thought these were cantaloupes but they turned out looking like honeydew. They took much longer to flower and then mature than the galia melons. At one stage I almost pulled them out because I thought they weren't going to do anything. Tasted great in the end.

I live in a part of the UK with very mild winters. Please take this into account before thinking "if he is sowing those now...."
