New Plum tree

Hi all im new here and need help
We recently got a vic plum tree I've replanted in by her ppot and was told by garden centre to prune branches now as that when they need doing since then all leaves are wilting and looking very sorry for it's self.
Is this normal

Hello Kelvin and welcome.

Sounds daft, I know, but are you giving it enough water? Trees in pots need more attention than those in the ground but any newly planted tree needs extra watering until its established.
The other question is - when did you prune it?

Same day I got it.... about a week.ago as that's when they told me to.
Yes the sold is wet I also put stones/peddles
(You know the special kind)
On top again was told it's best for I.

Maybe it needs a bit of time to adjust to its new pot. Can you move it out of the full sun for a while?

Doesn't sound right to me - a tree should be very healthy when bought at this time of year.

I agree with VC about moving it to a shady spot.

I'd take some photos in case you need evidence to get your money back.

You do mention you put the tree in a pot - do I take it from that that it was in a smaller container when you bought it, or was something-else going on ?

I put it in bigger pot as again was told to if I wasn't putting it in the ground.
Yes I can put in shandy area. Maybe it's just stressed after the move. Won't be getting anything from it this year.

I don't think you did anything wrong - I'm a bit sceptical of the quality if the tree you were sold though - may be it will pick itself up OK.

As for watering, I'm going to have to go with the unhelpful response of "as much as the plant needs, but not more" - the reason is that the weather, container and how the tree itself is growing are all variables and its impossible to lay down sensible rules which will work well in all cases.

The general advice is that the growing medium in the container should be damp, but not wet through for most of the time. I've got a couple of trees in pots which I bought bare-rooted earlier this year and due to the extremely warm weather we're having here at the moment I'm watering them a bit most days, which is more frequently then I'd usually be doing it.

Are there any shoots coming out from below the graft,cut off anything shooting out a foot or less from the ground,it could be that the rootstocks growing & taking energy from the tree?
