  • Peach leaf curl

I bought a bare root patio nectarine tree only this spring and already it is badly affected by peach leaf curl. About a month ago I removed the blistered leaves, but now any new shoots are badly affected being crumpled distorted and coloured very light green. What should I do now? Advice greatly appreciated.

Feed it with a seaweed spray as a foliar supplement - pick off the infected leaves again, and put it somewhere it won't get rained on if possible eg under the cover of the house eaves.

Thanks Nickdub. To pick off the infected leaves again will mean picking off some new shoots as well which are a mass of crumpled distorted lime green leaves - but that I will do. It’s only a few feet high and in a pot so I can avoid rain on it quite easily - I assume don’t let any leaves get wet when watering as well? I’m pleasantly surprised it may recover without chemicals. Thanks again.

You're very welcome - if the new shoots are really tangled and you're unable to just get at the diseased leaves then by all means leave them to grow a bit bigger first, so you can see what you're up to - a small pair of scissors might be handy just to get at the leaf stalks you want to cut off.

Within half an hour I had done what you said. I just cut off completely a couple of new shoot tips and removed any blistered leaves. I co incidentally had collected seaweed three days ago and it was steeping in an old black bin. Took some of that, strained it - put it in an old spray bottle and sprayed all the remaining leaves on the tree. I think I am correct in saying i should continue to give a seaweed foliar feed every fortnight and immediately remove any subsequent leaf which develops a blister through the summer. Thanks again.

I bought a nectarine tree online, and when it arrived it was badly affected with leaf curl.
I read up on this forum, and removed the badly disfigured leaves, and sprayed the rest with oregano oil mixed with water and washing up liquid.

I was amazed at how well it worked, within a couple of weeks the tree was fine and growing well. I also have a peach tree growing outside that wasn't showing any symptoms yet, but I sprayed that as well and so far it's doing well.

I’ll try that as well - thx Bobdave.
