Small maggots in raspberry fruit

Well I get this every year. Raspberries when harvested are checked for insects and stored in the kitchen. Then to my horror when I have them sprinkled on my porridge I find the odd tiny maggot peeping out of the fruits as if escaping the heat of the porridge. What are they and how can I stop them as this puts me off eating the fruits because they may be inside and no way of really knowing.

Yes, I get them in both Raspberry and Brambles. You can get a spray to treat the brambles, but a bit late for rasps this year.

One option if you are making jams etc is to soak the fruit in salted water. The works will float to surface, and skim them off. Rinse again and then Jam them.

Might be easier to freeze them on a tray and then use those for the porridge...at least you'd know for sure they are dead!!!!
Personally I don't bother checking...what the eye can't see n'all that.
Never tried the salt water approach...but it sounds a good idea if they are rinsed well afterwards.

I have the little ****** on the tayberry/loganberry. If the stalk end of the fruit looks damaged or has a tiny hole in it, I chuck it. With the longer fruit you can cut off the damaged end and the bottom half is usually OK.

One positive thing is that you'll also be attracting insect eating birds....there's a shortage of insects ya know
Actually scrap that ^^^^... the birds would probably start eating your fruit and plant tips....but no doubt they're already doing that?

Try hanging a cup of apple cider vinegar on a branch like in this video,to monitor & catch any Spotted wing drosophila flies it might be them?
