Did anyone else plant their 'Gartenperle' tomatoes from their copy of GYO? I have 4 on the go, here's one of them. It has one little yellow flower about to open at the top. And as the pack said no support or sideshooting I haven't done any, hope that's right. Please add a pic if you have one.

Hi Strepsy, your tomato looks great, very healthy looking but the pot looks a little small for the size of the plant. Check the roots underneath the pot to make sure its not getting pot bound. Good luck.

I've got several Gartenperle plants on the go, but they don't seem to be getting any bigger and have stayed 10cm high for weeks on end. Once the latest spat of rain is over I'm just going to plant them into my hanging toughs and let them go for it and hopefully they'll settle in and grow. That's what I love about tumbling varieties - you can just leave them to get on with it and just need to water and feed them regularly.

You are all so far ahead of us up here. I have 5 varieties of toms on the go and none are any bigger than a couple of inches at the mo, but are growing well.
I do have one question which I'm sure you'll be able to help me with. Never having grown bush or tumbler tomatoes before, never mind in hanging baskets, how much space do I need to leave between plants, or how many plants to a hangng basket. Gertenperle (GYO freebie) is the variety I refer to.Rat

Bush tomato plants can grow very big so give them 2 foot between plants. We also use extra cane sticks to tie the branches to and last year put up a frame with wires going across so that we could tie the branches in. I have been told that just one tumbling tomato plant should be put in hanging baskets.[

Tomato Growth Question...
OMG Streps that's HUGE! I'm no-where near yours, although mine are bush and not tumbling any way... Mine sound like Esky's. They're definately not dying, put on a growth spurt 2 weeks ago and have stopped
They're outside now unde cloches as I wanted my dinner table back... I've never grown tomatoes from seed before - is this normal behavour - do they act like children and have growth spurts or the fact mine have now stopped does it mean somethings wrong? They stopped their spurt 2 weeks ago before I put them outside so I haven't put it down to transplanting shock or anything...?Shortie

I planted my Garden Pearl on 25th Feb and photo there was taken about 2 weeks ago. You can see the size of them in 12" pots. They'e about twice that size now and are all flowereing. I'm absolutely delighted with them and looking frward to the toms.
The potatoes in buckets are Charlotte. Piccy taken abot 2 weeks ago and now twice the size too. Look great plants. Hope I get a good crop. I have some in a bin too and planning to plant some more as I have plenty of space.
I've made a planting chart to keep a record of dates things planted, germinated, transplanted etc and how they get on so that I can refer to it for next year and learn from my successes and mistakes. First time I've ever had the time to do this and everything was a hit and miss before. I'm pinning al my gardening hopes on that chart!
From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.
