  • Announcement - 2024 Competition

Sadly , due to lack of response this year ( thank you Plot70 and VinceG for entering) we’ve come to the decision not to run the VVS anymore.
It’s been great fun over the years to see the amazing photos of other Grapes’s growing efforts. Including failures!
Many Thanks to everyone who has been involved and also to the other mods who have helped run it.

However…on a very positive note, we have decided to create an annual thread for people to post pictures throughout the year of what they have grown, be they failures, funnies, or proudly harvested.

    Do please continue to share….

Aww that’s such a shame Nicos, I think this summer has been a dud for everyone with the weather the way it was.
Hopefully it will return again in the not too distant future!

Always happy to start it up another year if enough people say they they would like to enter.

Yep…this year has been rubbish weather wise..I’d have thought the ‘failure’ section would have been inundated with entries!

I'm guilty of empty promises of entries

not sure I could have completed with the worthy chilli and beetroot entries - worthy winners both - but I picked out a pretty plate to display my zero yellow gooseberry harvest .

Time was not my friend in the end. Another few weeks on the deadline I might have made it.

Sorry for letting the side down x

Ah, that’s a real pity about the competition, Nicos, but totally understandable given the weather this year! It’s been one of those summers that just didn’t make things easy for growers. But I think the new thread idea is brilliant—sometimes the best stories come from our little mishaps or unexpected successes in the garden! Looking forward to seeing everyone’s updates, whether it’s a bumper crop or a laughable fail. Here’s hoping next year brings better weather and maybe even a revival of the VVS if enough of us are up for it! 🌱

And when your back stops aching,
And your hands begin to harden.
You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.
