  • First asparagus

Here is a picture of my first ever asparagus crop. I am so proud of myself you would think I won todays marathon

This is the first year I am able to cut some spears so cannot wait till next year when I'll be able to eat the lot!!

EDIT - I've just noticed that I've become a seedling!!

Well done. No androil, it will come up in the first year but you should really wait till Year 3 before cutting it to build up the strength of the plants. In this way you get good thick spears instead of the thin, wispy sprue. As an asparagus bed can be productive for many years it's a long term investment. I grew some on my last allotment. We moved house in year 4! Grrr!
