Senshyu Onion Sets

Hiya

I am new to growing veg - luckily to have an allotment in Sept but as you can imagine I am restricted what I can grow as I am out of season. So trying to find out what I can grow. I was looking on a few web sites and it seems I can show some Senshyu onions.

Can anyone confirm this before I waste any money and time. Also can anyone recommend a good supplier for them.

I have some broad beans, garlic, pointed cabbage, purple brocolli and peas growing. Can anyone recommend any other veg I can grow

Shenshyu onions should be fine. They are, I believe, bred for overwintering but once out of the ground don't keep as well as some of the later ones such as bedfordshire champion.

Depending on where you are you could try some winter spinach and winter radish.

Hi Lorraine and welcome to the vine!

I have some Senshyu onions growing myself which I grew from seed. I think it is too late to sow them now but if you can get a hold of any of the Japanese/Autumn onion sets you should be ok! Try your local garden centres or failing that try a bit online shopping.

Hi Lorraine Welcome to the vine,

There are other varieties to look for as well. Radar & Electric a two I've grown in the past.. Snadgers right, your too late for seed but should be OK for sets still so long as you get them in asap. If you look around the garden centres you may find some plants of spring cabbage that you could drop in to keep things a growing. Don't worry though, it'll soon be time to get your spuds & then the rush will start

We planted Electric 4 weeks ago now, 50 sets, and have 48 shoots now in the bed, some of which are already 8" tall! I'm sure of you get some that you should have no problems with getting them growing!

I used this ebayer, my 50 Radar sets and 50 Senshyu are all coming up very nicely now! No worries from me, and if they can survie a Forsinard winter then they should be fine pretty much anywhere...!
