Entering local veg show.Help needed!

i was thinking of entering a local veg show,and after looking at the catagories to enter i have a couple of questions, if any one can answer.
onions need to be tied of with raffia.
question how and what do they mean? where do i get raffia?
onions need to be presented on a dish of fine sand
question Is this a special sand or something from B & Q ?

They normally give you the plate and sand....it is usally a paper plate and fine dry sand...check the schedule and it wil say if its included.

The sand is so you can make your onions stand up right.

fold the tops of the onions over so they are neat and then tie up the tops with the raffier
you can get it from the gc....I am sure some of the old hands will help...if not have a word with the show sec and he will help you....We always help new people the night before the show.
