  • Easy support for cucumbers

I have constructed a simple support using bamboo canes for the cucumbers in my soil less greenhouse. It was easy to build, and it will be easy to disassemble and store when not in use. The bamboo was really inexpensive, and it is strong and durable. The cucumbers are Bush Champion which do not require much space and produce 8" fruit. So far the plants are producing mostly female flowers, and I have had very few male flowers to remove.

I run horizontal wires along the length of the greenhouse under the sloping part of the roof. Plants requiring support can then be suspended from the wires using string or vertical wires. This method is highly flexible enabling you to respond to the support needs of different crop plants as and when required.

I've done the same as rana but used an 8ft cane this year until I've decided how I'm going to fix it at the bottom, which I will sort out during winter ready for 2010's tomato and cuke growing. Then, I will have permanent wires from roof to floor.

      I's a good frame though - I like it!

One of my goals was something I could remove, as I use the space for other crops when not growing cucumbers. I plant small bush type plants that only need a few feet of space, although in the greenhouse that is not always the case. The variety I planted last year was only supposed to grow to 24" but it grew to more than eight feet.

I tie a string round the botton of the pot then up the side of the GH over the roof and down to a pot the other side....via rings inthe frame.

I also use the bamboo for toms and peppers. A large bundle sells for under three dollars.
