        • We've been a Harvesting today!

First batch of overwintering onions were pulled, 47 lovely sturon onions, ranging from medium to very large sizes, now drying on a wire rack in the back bedroom!

Also harvested the thermodyne overwintering garlic, 46 bulbs, ranging from a singe clove (about 5 of them) thru to very large indeed, all now hanging upside down in the back bedroom!

Also harvested the first early spuds, Pentland Javelin, about 30kilos from 2.5 kilo planted, some very nice sized spuds and some smaller new potato size! All the haulms had died back so we thought we'd best get them dug up, gives us somewhere for the leeks to go into tomorrow too! Bonus!

Also harvested more mange tout, 3 baby courgettes, more bored beans, 4 baby carrots and lots of rasps and blackcurrants! All but the fruit will be sampled tonight in a Plot Pot Rissotto! Cant wait!

          • Is'nt it just great to be able to dig up your own crops and eat them on the same day. Theres no taste like it, especially those new potatoes. Well done you two, you deserve it after all your hard work.

              • How lovely, Alice! Can't wait for my first courgette!

I'm scrutinising your brassica bed - are those red cabbage at the top? and if so, when do you expect to crop?

                  • Yes Hazel, it's red cabbage but I don't expect it to crop for quite a while. The other cabbage is Protovoy which I'm growing to get little 2 person cabbages. They have hearted up well and I expect to be eating them before summer is over. Best of all, my caulies have little curds and I'm well pleased about that. I was a bit worried about the brassicas as I'm growing in a raised bed and thought it might not be firm enough for them, but absolutely no problems sp far. I'm just waiting to see how the sprouts get on.

                      • Fine big potatoes Alice and good looking carrots. What variety are they?

                              • Hello Jennie and Bramble. The carrots are Early Nantes, grown in a rose pot. I've got some in the ground, so waiting to see what they are like.
