Decided to check my early Nantes carrots that are growing under a fleece covered frame (last piccy) to see if they needed thinning.
Got a nice shock! First piccy shows fresh pickings, including a few small fennel thinnings, and a handful of forked ones that look like something I found in outer space.
Second piccy shows them clean and ready for use, minus a few 'batch testers' !!
I'll be using this cover again since it seems to have worked a treat.Veni, Vidi, Velcro.
I came, I saw, I stuck around.

Another fish box grower Salina! I find them washed up on the East coast beaches and bring them back if they're in reasonable nick. There are some on my blog, with courgettes and cucumbers in.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

Flummery, fish boxes are great aren't they? I only have one at the moment, had two but on got taken to the landfill without my permission lol.
They are great for growing little rows of lettuces in as well, and root veggies because they are so deep!
Hopefully I will find another one day at the beach lol.Last edited by Salina; 08-06-2007, 11:10 AM.

Hi all,
not had too much luck with my veg. Cucumbers, cauliflower and sweetcorn all died on me and everything else is taking ages to grow.
i have 1 cabbage coming through, 4 peppers plants, this is the biggest of them. 2 strawberry plants only one has fruits on it and they are slowly turning red. 2 courgette plants, 3 french dwarf bean plants

Hello Doctor, did you keep your carrots under fleece for their whole lives. Anybody else growing under fleece - even if just early and late ? Looking for ways to extend the season - early and late - using fleece. Maybe this should be a different thread.
From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.
