    • Those look fantastic, Alice! What were the potatoes like? I've grown rocket as a first early and I'm finding them a bit bland in taste, so I'm looking for clues for next year already! The nadine that I dug up last night in the trug (by mistake, if you must know!) were much tastier!

      • Great smug trug you have this week Hazel. You must be well pleased. I don't think Rocket has any great flavour either. I haven't grown them but have bought them and they're nothing special.
Cherie has an absolutely excellent flavour and I'll be growing more of them next year. Excellent salad potato.
My Swift is just about ready so I'll see how they compare.

Hi Alice, in this particular instance, yes. I also have some flyaway or resistafly (can't remember which!) in a bed with a few onions that aren't covered, but the early nantes have been covered since the seed went in. It seems to have been beneficial in keeping the warmth in, and hopefully the carrot fly out.

I don't water them very often either, in an attempt to get the roots to go downwards, and that doesn't seem to be doing them any harm either.

The piccies above are justy the thinnings and I'm hoping for a few bigger ones soon!

          • Hi All,

Inspired by Doctor's carrot, I went to pull some of my parisian, and... it was time to harvest. Here are my funny round parisian carrots picture, and then follow by Courgette and mangetout ( actually I was a bit late in harvesting it, it was more a marrow to me, weight 800 grams alone plus another 2 small caourgettes weight each 100 grams... luckily my marrow corgette tasted not too bad ) and my last one was garlic ( those with full stems are spring garlic and those amputated ones are autum garlic ).
It is great to see that most grapes are harvesting...

                • Thanks Doctor, I think I'll try my carrots under flleece next year, and see if it forces them on a bit.

                  • Great pics Momol. Great to see the success other Grapes have had. I'm doing my own trial on garlic - autumn and spring grown. They're not ready yet - few weeks to go, but had a poke in there today and some big cloves in there. Will report on the difference when I get them all out. Should be interesting.

                    • Great to have a strawberry Heebiejeebie. Mine are not ready yet. When I only have a few I make strawberry and brie salad. Make your salad bed, add brie and strawberry and a little balsamic vinegar. Very lovely.

                          • Thanks Alice, They are my first ever carrots and garlics. The carrot were planted in a pot at the balcony, the autum garlics were from supermarket ( no idea which type ) the spring garlic were from garden centre but too bad they didn't mention which variety it is.

                            • Let me introduce you to what is rather pompously known as 'the courtyard garden'....

pic 1 is of one of 4 half hanging baskets planted up a couple of marigold and a bonsai tomato (balconi yellow - thank you LJ)
pic 2 is of my attempt at a bit of successional sowing - quite big carrots (parmax - thank you PW), smaller carrots and the salad trough which I shall raid some thinnings of for tea tonight
pic 3 is of my courgette (black beauty) which is growing before my eyes - anyone think that I should give it a cane for support, or will it be ok?#
pic 4 is my naughty mog Oliver lying out in the cat mint!

Cute garden (and cat!), very impressed with your courgette, mine aren't growing so well. But I am proud of my very first cauliflower!
