But I don't pamper them at all - they have to be hard to survive up here - and as they are my income, I sure aint gonna pull / dig / pick a whole heap of carrots, tatties, whatever just to find three good 'uns.
One of my major selling points is freshness, which I achieve byensuring that 99% of the veg is quite literally picked / pulled / dug up in front of the customer.
Just been preparing supper and have washed 27 slugs off 2 lettuce....
been chatting to myself as one does....how about a picture of the largest slug...the most flooded allotment/veg patch????-

I have a quick gander at the categories and just a small sugestion.......you might want to explain what 'dressed' under the onion section means as those that don't show won't have a clue what you mean! Although i suppose you might end up with pictures of onions in little trousers and jackets - that would be fun!
There are other examples no doubt where you may need an explanation of the 'showing' term

I don't know about being dressed....they look quite nude to me! In fact some have developed a bit of a tan....hope it wasn't from a bottle!

Hold on folks!! We are getting there, but rules and definitions, etc will follow shortly. We tried to get an outline of what was being planned to you as soon as possible, but it is taking a little bit of time for us to sort this one out, so that there are (hopefully) no teething problems.

Thank you and PW and all others involved for getting this idea up and running as it has been punted about for quite a while now.
Another wee point that may need clarification before all is finalised - I know what you said in your last post but on Davids sticky it says about one entry per person per class. What about the three potatoes (of same cultivar) class. If you grow more than one variety, can you clarify if grapes can enter a group of three for each variety ?
The competition classes are a bit more serious than I thought they would be. And whose got 3 sticks of rhubarb left. Mine's long gone for rhubarb ripple (thank you Wellie). Most of my potatoes have been eaten, the neighbours have the best of the radish and my garlic isn't up for a mention.
Oh well, it's just for fun, will have another look and see what I can come up with. Looking forward to seeing what other grapes have.
PS When does the competition close - I might have 3 matching corn cobs about November - all rubbish offcourse.

Wow, that picture of the dressed onions is a bit posh!
It's prompted a question though. I've never, ever displayed or shown anything I've grown. I have no idea how to prepare any vegetables in an acceptable way for showing. There must be accepted practise as to how to prepare the various veg but the only preparation I've ever done is to prepare stuff for eating!
Whlist I accept that some sort of guidance as to how the various stuff should be prepared is quite an undertaking, if I don't know this at this early stage, there's no point in me taking pictures of anything because they won't be prepared correctly.

I think that the Vine know that we are all pretty much novices at this, and it IS just a bit of fun, so I suspect that they wont be tooooo harsh if our showing technique isn't 'just so'!
Take your pics, everyone - do join in! And those who have showing experience and want to did it 'by the book' will be an inspiration for the rest of us for next time round.
We'll all deserve prizes for getting anything to the plate this year anyhow!

Nothing is going to be taken too seriously and an onion in a trouser suit may well get in amongst the cards.
Rat, the three spuds on a plate is 1 class, there are not different classes for each cultivar or we would have 200 classes for tatties alone, so you can enter only once.
Garlic sounds like a good addition Alice, any more suggestions.
