But outside of ordering from specialist plastic packaging companies the product doesn't really exist.

The other problem as well is you need to find a 3" diameter filling tube. Ive used a broken discarded green plastic pipe from the cable laying guys and cut it to 2 - 3 ft length.
You find the 3" dia best?
when they're trodden on, do they flatten and stretch to more than 3"?

Because of the wood chips are compacted into the mesh tubes they sort of retain their shape. Squished out to about 4" thick hamburger shaped, in profile.

      Why not bypass the shredder,
      Chestnut

Don't own a shredder. Waste wood chips are everywhere you just have to take bags along and fill them up.

Wood chip socks once filled (15 mins) are almost instant deployment... and also just as quickly for redeployment on other beds in year 2. Hazel interwoven slats take a little longer.

The strongest plastic mesh i've found is called "gutter mesh" by Blackspur (Hamble Distribution Ltd) but its not a tube. Its used to keep leaves out of guttering. Its sold in the pound shops.

If this stuff came in a 2m TUBE it would be perfect, its slightly more rigid, seems stronger than the packaging mesh.

I've tried with no joy to contact the supplier...

Definitely very interesting, I'm looking at creating easy movable borders that I can grow mushrooms in.
A wood chip sock is ideal for this purpose and the plastic would work to allow mushroom to grow, downside is the high open mesh space might allow too much drying, I'd have to be vigilant keeping the wood moist

Just looked at the Blackspur gutter mesh, being a bit thicker/stronger, It might be harder to fill than the stuff you're already using. Also, I reckon that if you trod on in it, it'll eventually break up as I think the increased size might have less "give". Just a thought.
The stuff your using seems to be working by your findings

Pile soil up the sides of the mesh and mulch the soil with straw, isn't that what they do in the mushroom industry ? They use a lot of straw.

Oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus) and Winecap (Stropharia rugosoannulata) are the two easiest to grow in an allotment environment, these are the two I'm growing this year.
Yep, the certainly grow on straw, just need to keep it damp.

Yes it was, it comes on a 25m roll in cardboard box.

Will update tonight with the actual code & dimensions. They do lots of different types.
