  • Greenhouse identification?!?!

My father in law has given us an aluminium greenhouse he took down for a friend... trouble was, he didn’t take any pictures of it before he dismantled it!

It’s a 6 foot by 8 foot but instead of the ridge being along the 8 foot length and the door in the 6 foot end, the ridge is along the 6 foot length with the door in the middle of the 8 foot side.

I’ve had a Google and can’t see many that design so I’m assuming it might be rare enough to get an ID on it and then a manual or at least a picture! I can’t see any stickers or writing on the aluminium frame itself.

    Any ideas anyone?!?!

It’s like a jigsaw puzzle but without the image to work out where to start!

Just a bit! There was much cursing and kicking of aluminium posts on the first evening as it just didn't make sense... then my wife came home and told me roughly what it looked like! Then the next night we had the bulk of it put together very quickly!

                    Stan,
I did exactly the same thing, nearly kicked it in at one point,

I found that there was some bits missing, Is there a good greenhouse sundry supply web site that everyone uses or are they all pretty much the same?

I got home yesterday to find that the wind had blown it over into a twisted pile of metal! Oops!

Half an hour of tweaking and more cursing and it was straightened out and I got the base attached on three sides. Some bits still aren't lining up though. Some of the verticals are too long / short for where it looks like they should go!

If only he'd taken a picture before dismantling it!

Hey ho. It survived the strong winds overnight even though the BBQ, kids slide, blowaway and patio furniture was redistributed around the garden!

You can get aluminum right-angle profile bar in different sizes in a lot of places eg B&Q - and as its easy to cut, bend or drill you can make a a lot of substitute parts yourself - if the bit you are missing has a specific profile like a glazing bar then things get more tricky, as each manufacturer's type seems to differ a bit - I'd be inclined to bodge something to fit, but you could also try somewhere like freegle to see if anyone had any spare parts that might work from an old greenhouse.

Frame finally finished complete with door, window, self opening mechanism, etc.

Just need to pressure wash it, move it into position, build the base for it, glaze it and get planting!

Question 1: I’m planning on sticking some paving slabs up the centre as a path and just planting directly into the soil either side and at the far end from the door. Any problems with that approach?!?!

Question 2: does anyone know where to buy “Y” profile door seals? I’ve had a google and can’t see any!

If you put your GH flat on the ground - ie without any sub-wall, then height can be a bit of a problem depending on how tall you are.
