Using cageless IBC for water

Before I test it, does anyone know if a 1000 litre IBC will pop/burst when filled with water if it is not supported by its cage?
Or is the cage there for safe transportation and stacking?

It will be fine without the cage, but make sure its clean and hasn't previously held something nasty

I'm surprised at that. I always thought the cage was essential.

I had one without s cage for years Snadger, only got rid of it as the tap broke

If it bulges you could always put a wooden stake up against the sides, one in the middle of each side will do the job
