  • Cheap way to connect your barrels

First skip dive/scrounge piping,we ended up with difering sizes, but overcame it,especialy when DH drilled some holes bigger, due to not cheching with the pipe first,
Our selection was plastic reforced,2 sizes, black reforced rubber, and blue water pipe, the pics show how it was all used, baisic was, what ever fittet into what, plus the trusty gaffer tape,
the last pic is just a few of the barrels we have, and most are full

      snappety snap!

you can just see the tubing between the two middle barrels. There's enough in there so they fill in sequence thanks to the slight slope on the patio [or what I laughingly call the patio]

Brilliant idea LD. What is the white piping please? Is it flexible piping stuff? I have loads of blue water pipe but wondered what the white is. Does the water come off the shed rood first of all? Sorry to be a pain, just not technically minded at all

yes it is flexible,in a stiff sort of way lol,
yes the water is of roofs,we have 2 plots with barrells down both, and a path up the middle,1 side has the potting shed, with a feeder into it from shed on side 2,the grow barn fills that side, the big blue barrell on the corner has a pipe to transfer water from the other slope,a.............nd,recently put a plastic roof over the patio area,at the mo it runs into it's own barrell untill it get diverted,

Gaffer tape,a lot of places sell it,is a 2in wide plasticie very sticky selotape, even the scissors stick on it,i wound some around the pipe so when pushed into the hole,it will take up any slack left between the barrell and the pipe, also round the joins in the plasic frame we repaired,is good for lots of things,it should last at least the season,

the only difference between white and blue pipe ladylottie is that white pipe is used above ground and blue is used below ground - they are both reasonably flexible. gaffer tape is just a really strong and very sticky tape - im surprised you've not heard of it as its very commonly used.

think the white we have was for oily things, but DH saw it in a skip, not been used, and asked for it,apparently was not up to their scratch,he been a few times for a look, but nothing,it flopes down, the blue IS stiff water pipe,

gaffer tape is also called duct or duck tape. It seems to get stickier as it gets older. I stuck one of my keys together with it [the van ignition key] it's still holding it together even though the key is nearly in half. I do replace it from time to time but it's a nightmare ot remove because it sticks so well....

LD if you want to connect barrels like those where you can get in the top and they are static the cheapest stuff is 3/4" plastic over flow pipe from any plumbers merchant, if you ask for tank connectors to suit these are the correct addaptors to fit your barrels.

I to like free in fact I luv free, but this stuff is so cheap its not worth the fuel to go scrounging. Pipe less than £2 for 3 mtrs to save on connectors you could just drill a hole and silicone it in.

                              Good Evening Grapes,

Where do you fine people source your blue barrels from? I've managed to blag some guttering and down pipes which will go on my shed i just need some sort of container to collect the rain in.

                              Any advice greatly appreciated.
