Is the whole allotment like that, or just the bit in front of the shed?

ther looks like a membrane of some sort under the wet soil.
is it permeable or is it plastic that went down before the shed was put down
this will be a battle from the heart

        Thanks Phil and Rustylady

        Rustylady:

There is a bit around the plot but nothing like in front of the shed.

"i have more photos if needed"

        Phil:

There was a membrane around the shed front & plot but i have taken that out from the shed front in hope the water will drain away.

I was thinking of a french drain possibly but dont know if that will slove the problem or make it worse

        Cheers NJ

If you've managed to get all the membrane out from that area then it should drain. The soil is probably compacted too as it will get walked on regularly when accessing the shed. Have you thought about digging out some of the soil and putting paving slabs there?

            Hi Rustlady,

"Have you thought about digging out some of the soil and putting paving slabs there?"

Could be a possible thing to try will look into it.

Going to pop down tonight and see if its any better than yesterday.

                  Hi Jim,

I can't help with the drainage either, but you could get something like this to put in front of the shed until you get it sorted. I bought some as with all the rain the grass outside my shed was getting trashed. It works a treat.

You also need to think about where your water can go - on our site some of the other plots tend to flood (mine is higher so OK) but there is nowhere for the water to go as the sites are level with the canal, the sides of which form a barrier so the poor plot holders on that side seem to spend forever digging ditches which doesn't help at all. A few of them are now looking to put a channel along the bottom of all the plots to take the water to some waste ground which seems a much better option.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

What about putting some duckboards down, or a pallet with closely spaced planks. If that sinks in, just put another one on top!

                          Update

After been on the plot till about half 10 last night i am unsure if it is a leak or excess water under the shed base.

I managed to bale out loads of water only for it to fill back up. Once emptied you can defo see it coming from under the shed.

From my knowledge there is no hose's or anything water related under there.

Struggling to think what to do next.

Thanks for all your help and advice

Keep baling - it must be coming from somewhere. Is your plot level, whereabouts is it in relation to others on the site, and do they have the same problems.

Can you get a plan of the drainage and/or water pipes on the allotments. If either of those is leaking it needs to be sorted asap. Good luck!
