Hi all. I have been looking for wood to make some more raised beds and was wondering is there any ideas on how to get some scrap wood for free?

Freecycle.
Ring round scaffold companies and ask if they are getting rid of any damaged stuff. It can be fairly cheap.
I found a source of pallet collars for £6 each.

(From pallet yard that also had some old scaffolding boards I got too)

Check out sheds. Men's sheds. Or behind men's sheds.
John-Next-Door and Chris-T'Other-Side have each set aside a fifth of their plots it seems, for wood that "might come in useful one day"All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

Pretty much any company might have a few old pallets lying around, supermarkets/DIY stores might give you some broken ones if you can find anyone working there with a bit of initiative
The wood's cheap, but it's still wood! sanded down and varnished, you get something a little bit like:
