It would be easier but......unless I can get into the centre, I'll only be able to grow veg in a 2' wide circle around the outside edge -'cos I only have little arms

kiddie trampolines? thy're square roughly 3ft across...a few of them as frames to create a stepping stone style path? laid on their side you could stake the handle to the ground....

                  EDIT : Like this

No no, not the rack! With your sense of humour I'd end up with one arm and one leg 6' long and the other about ......erm......the size it is now
Bear with me for a mo - my long term aim is to fill this trampoline to the top, so that I can grow root veg in it. The garden is so full of roots and rocks that its impossible. So, its a circular raised bed - that's a bit too big Its also another of my daft ideas

Now I see myself bouncing through it like a wallaby, plucking parsnips and shoving them in my pouch
I know what you're thinking - you're trying so hard to find solutions and all I do is laugh at them

nope, I like that idea, pouch would definately be of more benefit over a trug...

Obviously, I was talking about the frames without legs, the layers on top of the handles to help keep it in place, the fabric acting as the walls

                          ---! Path !---

The cross sectional view where the "x"s represent the detrius, the "!" representing the frame and material and the "-" the handle on the ground

a simpler and mmore flexible solution would be to simply stake where you want the path and chicken wire it out creating a path within any shape you want..... line the bed side with weed control fabric to prevent the stuff falling through the holes....

I think that will be the easiest for me - and I'm sure I have some more chicken wire. The weed control fabric is a good idea as I've been puzzling how to keep the contents in place.
Thanks RT and everyone else who's contributed. It really helps to talk it over

When I woke this morning I knew how to do this -with a secondary glazing window frame, cut in half. Perhaps the last thing any of you would have suggested - but if you think this place resembles Steptoe's yard you'd be right
I found some pig wire with small mesh wire attached to it - that used to be part of the chicken run - and it was exactly the right length for the inner path.

I haven't fixed the wire to the frame yet - it needs to straighten itself out a bit after being rolled up - but I'm almost there
