  • i have an idea but im not sure what you are really aiming for, if i had the poles i would maybe do somethong like this:
i think i saw you could have 6*8' poles, drill a 20mm hole in the side of the top of each pole about 10 cm maxi from the top,, share your poles out over an area= lets say 1.5m between each pole so , an openenig at the front and back of 1.5m then 3 poles on the left then 3 on the right each equidistant 1.5m now, support all of these however you wish, bamboo canes all around top and bottom then a few x's (crossed over bamboos/bars whatever?) around the place,
take a hose from your tap,
zip tie it up the first right hand pole for example
feed it into the first pole pull it out of the new hole you drilled at 10 cm, take it over to the pole to your left and do the same then cross over to the 2nd pole on the right (this hose can be pierced for auto watering, do it lightly with a pin and it will make a fine spray ,,)and when you get to the last pole instead of just capping off your hose , zip tie it down the pole and put either a tap on it or a spray hose end so that when you use your hose or tap behind the new auto watering greenhouse or shed or whatever you cover it with, it will turn on the watering inside?
i would do something like that anyway? that is just a quick idea/explanation i have just come up whilst reading this, if you want anymore enlightenment on it just let me know and i cold think of improvements

    • Thanks Bretty - I understand the logic and its a really good idea. Unfortunately it wouldn't work here because the Thing will be too far from the house for water unless I join multiple hoses together!!
I don't really know what I'm aiming for either - but, when you have 12 metal poles lying around, you have to find something useful to do with them

      • i agree vc, you have to make use of stuff, im not a hoarder but i have a lot of stuff here because i have so many sheds/buildings/barns so i can keep stuff im sure will come in handy, give me a rough list of what you have and i will have a ponder, a rough layout of your plot too if you want! and anything you may want?

        • My husband was a hoarder and there's quite a lot of stuff here - but I have no real idea what some of it is - so I'm just playing about! I'm also totally useless at DIY - not even competent at using a power drill, so I have lots of ideas but they fail because I don't know how to do them. I get so cross with myself sometimes
If its a really good idea, I end up asking for help on here
Only 2 days ago, I found out that there are different saws for different purposes. I knew about bow saws and hack saws but I thought all the other saws were just - saws. It had always puzzled me why there was a drawer full of saws............
          I'm learning, slowly

          • if you have a question no matter how silly it may seem, fire away, i will help out all i can as far as diy is concerned, most people on here can give great gardening advice, i cant, im more of a builder than a gardener, i have only just got into gardening but i love it,

            • Thank you Bretty - and Bigmallly - and all the others who listen to my crazy ideas and try to sort me out Most of my questions are silly, but it doesn't stop me asking them

                • Plus trying to understand what on earth I'm trying to describe, when you would know the real names for things and could put it all much more succinctly

Take one metal tube trampoline base approx 12' diameter, and 2'6" high.
My idea is to construct it on some weedy ground, wrap chicken wire around the outer framework to keep out the rabbits, and partially fill the interior, lasagne style through the winter. Netting over the top, maybe, in the summer.
I need ideas on how to plan the space inside. The area is too great to be able to reach the centre over the sides (as you would with a raised bed) and my little legs have difficulty climbing over 2'6" on a regular basis
I could dig a trench to set it in, and lower it, but there are so many tree roots and rocks that it may be impossible to level it.
As for the interior, it could have a keyhole in the middle, perhaps, or have spokes across it like a wheel. I'd like maximum growing space, with ease of access and minimal work!
Dear Brainy Grapes, what suggestions do you have (apart from scrapping it)?
I got one of these trampolines and my oh helped me turn it into a tent. I love the fact your off the ground. As you say it would make a fab polytunnel alternative.

                            • Finally, the Trampoline has a future - as a seat around the oak tree Its still work in progress but I've spent today weaving hazel sticks around the base. The "seat" is still at the design stage so watch this space and see what develops.
Possibly divide the circle into 6 segments, put seating across 3 alternate segments and grow sweet peas, or similar scented flowers in between.
                              Any suggestions welcome, as ever.

                              • That's fabulous, VC. With a bit more work you could have a turf seat...
