I remember on grand designs, the eco house in france cut the bottle so that the wall wasn't so wide.

Personally I would go with something a little less expensive to start with. I made three planters a few years ago, see attached picture, stained them and lined them with plastic. 4 years on I've dug them up and moved them to the allotment, the plastic was frayed where it was visible to the sun but it was fine 18 inches down as was the wood. I used 6 x 1 rough sawn capped with a roofing batten to secure the plastic, and a 2 x 2 post, 300mm into the ground. They made great veg beds, the reason I've moved them is that the area now has chickens, see last two shots. They are slowly taking over.

Hey Mikey, I've already got several raised wooden areas but I want more! More and more space! And the back half of my garden is all thats left unless I dig up the whole lawn (already checked and I'm not allowed)

VC I plan to check on freecycle in a few months and will try to get up the courage to go round pubs and resturants and see if any of them will allow me to take their bottles off their hands. There are a alot of pubs and things round here.

Is it worth having a trial run before you start on the mega bottle collecting round?. Just a couple of feet - to see whether you like the effect and the effort involved!
Also, do you grow your fruit and veg in your flower beds (assuming you have some)? Its surprising how much you can get away with!

Hey VC I will have to try a trial run, didn't really think of that

I have one flower bed in the back garden which hosts some herbs but my adorable kitties have always used it as a toliet! Ick! Not really suitable for foodage.

We demand photos, SR - of the glass wall - not the Kitties' toilet

VC you can have photos when I've started building it! Otherwise I'd be showing you a photo of a pile of clay and weeds
