my home made compost tumbler

Good evening I just thought I would share with you my homemade tumbler, its made out of a 55 gallon adblue (diesel additive-pigs urine) drum (free from my workplace), mounted on a homemade 'A' frame that's made from 2x2inch fence stakes, there is a 25mm aluminium pole that is used as an axle, there are 2 'blades' inside which were cut from an old computer tower case, the clips used on the door were obtained from our local multi store for £2 so all in all this composter has cost around £8 to make and by using old bits laying around.

I just need to add some ventilation holes, paint it black and possibly add some kind of handle to make turning easier, I sanded the rough edges after I had taken the photos, so it looks a bit better now.

But won't black absorb more heat helping to destroy weed seeds and nasty roots?

Good job Simon, it's identical to one I made a couple of years ago. You'll need some kind of handle to turn it as it's bladdy hard work when it gets full. I just fastened a long bar on the end secured with exhaust brackets.

The composter is going onto the allotment so looks really dont matter, I also read about the fact that being black will absorb heat better.

I am actually thinking of trying a couple of bicycle sprockets and a chain to allow easier turning of the drum, we'll see.
