In my reclaimed veg patch I will have some paths which were very over grown but I have dug and dug and got most of the weeds out I hope. In the shed I found some Tildenet Mulch and Weed Mat and I assumed that the best thing to do was put this down and cover it with wood chips. Or would mulch be better? Its cheaper anyway. 900l Mulch £74.95, Landscaping bark £84.95 and Ornamental bark £104.

There's another posting all about covering paths and how people do it, as I've just been reading it. The cheapest and most effective option is just cardboard covered with wood chippings if you are lucky enough to have a good shredder/chipper and a source of suitable branches and twigs for chipping. -

I have just given it a real pruning before it comes into leaf in the hope of getting some regeneration and the tree not having to work as hard getting water and nutrients higher up. If this doesn't work I'll replace it next year with something else.
