Gravel Size for garden - Have a cat!

Hi we're planning on putting some gravel down in the garden but as we have a cat, we don't really want him using it as a giant litter tray! So my question is what size gravel would be best to avoid this? I was thinking of the 20mm size? Does this sound ok? Any suggestions or ideas would be very appreciated!

20mm will be fine but even better if you use pea shingle rather than pea gravel,as shingle initially goes down tighter & being rounded is harder to dig into than gravel (rounded edges that are harder to claw on)

Then the cats just do their business on top of the pea shingle

I would imagine the bigger stuff would be best. My mum always uses pea shingle which is about 20-30mm

I had solent gold in both my front and back garden and didn't have a problem. However that could be because of the dog.

Hi, we have 2 cats and have gravelled our garden with the 20mm size, they haven't used it so seems to work for us!

It's not usually your own cats that are a problem Mrs Wadders. When I had one he used to use his litter tray, not the garden. It's everyone else's cats that s**t in my garden

Any gravel and cats are there. They dump anywhere they like.

20mm should be fine, they really go for the smaller stuff but we've never had a problem with the 20ish mm stuff we have had out the front for the past few years. Tubs of soil are however a different story and one of them seems to be a community toilet

I hadn't thought of that, but yeah: confine the cat with a kerb
