    The correct way to remove old linseed putty is with a wood chisel.

    However I would recommend extreme caution , to remove the roof panes you first have to get above them and I fear any weight on that structure and its going to collapse and dump you in the middle of a heap of broken glass.

      Thanks Potstubsdustbins. I think "light a match and run" is the way to go, it's just not worth the risks.

        If you want panes for coldframes, visiting some local double glazing suppliers is always handy. They generally throw out the windows they remove and are happy for someone to take them away.
        I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.
