  • Permission for a second greenhouse

My fantastic, significant other half has said I can have an 8ft x6ft greenhouse (glass), being offered to be for free!!!!, however.... She doesn't want glass in the garden due to the kids.

    My questions are,

A, is it easy to replace with the polycarbonates glazing if the glass that is comes with is of a thinner thickness?

B, would love to of anyone who has done this.

C, what is the cost of polycarbonate?

I will start scrolling through this site to see if I can come across any information.

Omg, 8ft greenhouse, I might try keeping a species of frog or ant not native to this country, might even place a 4ft fish tank.... Certainly going to grow some food.
    Please don't tap the glass

2013, first year of trying to grow food for the table, any advice certainly welcomed.

Get rid of the kids and keep the glass
I'm sure its possible to swap to polycarb and you may be able to sell the glass to cover the cost

When I got my greenhouse and the boys were small (bigger than me now!) I went for toughened glass. We never had any issues even with footballs. Yes it is dearer but I've never replaced any glass.

Well I suggested getting rid of the girls, but it was a no.

I didn't think of toughened glass, what a cracking idea. I will pop into a glazers tomorrow and see what the going rate is.

I have two young children and have toughened glass- for that very reason.

I've dropped three panes of it, end on - and it's not broken. Panes have flown out across the garden and still been intact- regardless of it breaking into small bits rather than shattering it is very 'tough'.

          Heavy though!
