New lawn when to mow?

Laid my new lawn a couple of weeks ago (turf), have been told not to mow to soon. The question is how long to leave it?

Has it started to root?

Lift an inconspicuous corner, and see how good the root system is. If there is plenty of root, you'll be ok for a high cut if it's dry. If you can't lift a corner at all - go for it! But do a high cut first, and cut lower tomorrow. Collect the mowings each time, too.
