  • Water collection without a shed

I've got a cash grant of £210.00 to spend pretty quickly.
We don't have a shed yet at my allotments so I have the dilemma of how to collect water for use on plots.
I need something with is adaptable for the futre, for when I do get a shed (which will be of steel and 20ft x 8ft x 8ft) and something which was not designed by Heath Robinson.
Practical, functional, modern and reliable are the key words.
    Your opinions are eagerly awaited.

A simple shelter. Posts and roof and slope it down to one gutter.

set up as a lean-to using three by three posts, or maybe four by twos. Guttering and a downpipe to match, running into at least one butt.
Once you have your shed (and I hope you will make sure it is tilted ever so slightly if it's a shipping container and the roof is flat ) attach the guttering to the downslope side, and use the polycarb/perspex sheeting for cloches, cold frames, a lean-to greenhouse, etc.
Any timber left over would be useful for Munty frames, fruit caging, etc. Some pictures of my lottie and Munty Frame in Grow Your Own - Page 1

What exactly you need will depend on your location. If you are in gale-torn Shetland, you will need hefty substantial timber and sheeting to cope with the wind, and put rather less emphasis on trapping the copious amounts of rain than you would in the water-strapped Shires. If in doubt, brace the corners !
There's no point reading history if you don't use the lessons it teaches.
