  • Polycarbonate sheeting suppliers?

    Hi all,

I'm looking for a supplier of polycarbonate sheeting and after searching the internet i'm overloaded with options and different prices... I thought someone here might have some ideas.

Has anyone on here got any personal recommendations?

I'm after five sheets of 700x2200x4mm twin wall clear polycarbonate to finish my potting shed off. It's had a poly sheet tacked to it since i finished building it 2 months ago!!!

    Very grateful for any advice.

    Thanks,

    Stan

Personally I like 3mm extruded acrylic (aka Plexiglass). Its properties (light transmission and heat retention) are fairly similar to glass but has the advantage of been virtually unbreakable.

When a load of panes went in my greenhouse that is what I replaced it with that. The only "issue" I have found is that under heat it does sag slightly compared the the glass panes that are left. Probably only about 1cm where the 2 panes in the roof meet on each side. However if they are both acrylic then they both sag the same so don't leave a gap anyway.

      I've used this company before:

Polycarbonate Online | Polycarbonate Solid | Timber Support Bars | Self Support Bars

        Thanks both.

Martin - i'm after pretty bi sheets so if greenhouse panels sag then what you're suggesting might not be man enough?!?!

Vikki - thanks. That looks good!

We have a local company that supplies various sheet plastics cut to size to the building trade. They have no objections to gardeners raiding their skips full of off-cuts as long as we don't make a mess. They don't do anything thinner than 6mm and you take pot luck on what they threw away.
Maybe there are other similar companies around the country that welcome not having so much waste that they have to pay someone to take away.

I was wondering if anyone has an experience of using Sheet Plastics?

I am currently building a greenhouse (sort of) and have got the wooden frame built, the doors built and will put them on this weekend. That will then allow me to measure for each panel that I need polycarbonate sheet.

Sheet Plastics offer made to measure sheets which will save me a lot of time (and wastage) but having each panel pre-cut and leaving me only to have to screw them into place.
