  • Old bike wheel - any ideas on what it could be used for in the garden?

I have an old racing bike wheel (the metal part with spokes) its no longer usable for a bike but I quite like the idea of using it in the garden.

    Any suggestions welcome

Old bike wheel - any ideas on what it could be used for in the garden?

What about using it as a trellis, sweet peas or something like that? Make an interesting addition on the wall?

Might have to look for 1 myself.........

Put it on top of a post and run strings/wires down from each spoke to the ground (like a maypole) and grow beans or sweet peas up them.

hi, i dont know if you wanted to keep the wheel whole or what? but i have just had a look at a rim and what you could do (i have no idea why you would do this but im just offering an alternative idea) is get some pliers, snip the spokes as close as possible to the centre of the wheel rim, after each snip, take a pair of long nose pliers and twist a hoop on the end of the spoke you have just cut (purely for safety or could be used for string?) so once you have done thos to all the spokes, take for equidistance spokes (lets call them the corners) and bend upwards to create a "handle", now the spokes should freely push from the inside of the rim to the outside of the rim but without going through and falling to the floor (thanks to the loop we created and the stopper that is already in place on the other end of the spoke) so now that this can be supported from above or below you can do as 'vc' says but with variable length spokes, or you could hang in a barnand if you make a "u" bend where the stopper of the spoke is you could hang flowers upside down to save seeds? (the u bend would act as a grabber in principle you would push the spoke out from the rim, insert flower then pull spoke back in to "grab" in the 'u' bend? hope i make sense?

or...same idea as drying herbs, but hang CDs from it and use it as a bird scarer.
